Are Your Pets Protected From The Poisons In Your Home?

March is National Poison Prevention Month & we plan to blog & post information about how to keep our pets safe from the dangers lurking in & around our homes all month long.  To get us started, here are a few stats from the ASPCA® Animal Poison Control Center we feel we should mention:

  • Troublesome Sweets - Xylitol-related cases have nearly doubled since 2007. Keep candy, gum and baked goods containing this sugar substitute out of paw's reach.
  • Insecticide Issues - Over 50% of all calls to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center about cats involve exposure to insecticides. Read insecticide labels carefully!
  • Problematic Plants - This is one category where cats lead dogs in poisoning incidents.

You'll find a list of toxic plants at 101 Things You Didn't Know Could Harm Your Pet provided by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
